An exhibition of paintings by four artists, diverse in background and use of fine art medium, bonded by a common passion for creative expression through form and colour.

ANNA FOONG

Anna has been attracted to abstract shapes and illusions she sees in art forms but it wasn't until the nineties that she picked up the brush and started to paint. She painted and trained under renowned artists Jolly Koh and Amiruddin Ariffin. While intuitively drawn to nature she's also inspired by colour, their evocative relationships with each other and how they breathe life into a piece.

Having experimented with several mediums, Anna still finds herself returning to oil because colours dance differently in oil and their spontaneity brings a depth and texture so compelling. 'A Brush with Diversity' is Anna's first exhibition.

She is married to James Foong and together they share four children and three grandchildren.

PASU SIVA

Dr. Pasupathy is a practicing consultant orthopaedic surgeon by profession. He has long been interested in art, particularly painting in oils. Approximately twelve years ago he nurtured this interest by taking lessons with the renowned Malaysian artist, Dr. Jolly Koh, where he learnt the basics of oil painting, especially abstract forms. This prompted him to delve more deeply into various other styles.

He paints regularly as a form of relaxation to alleviate the stresses and strains of his orthopaedic practice. Dr. Pasupathy has now honed into abstract landscapes as his preferred style and subject. This is the first time he is participating in an exhibition.

RANITA HUSSEIN

Despite having had a varied career in the fields of law, finance, and human rights, Ranita's foray into painting was, nevertheless, a sea change  towards the far end of the spectrum - her creative side. Ranita's art work is  largely self motivated and her use of colours, medium and materials have evolved over a few years, with the generous guidance of established artists.

Ranita has a penchant for faces and figures, and sees a story behind every expression and posture. Working in oils and watercolours, she seeks to  depict social contrasts and cultural  diversity. Her paintings capture both ordinary and extraordinary scenes in the Malaysian experience and abroad, with a hint of nostalgia and humour.

VARSHA PRADHAN

Varsha, a lawyer, author and an ardent art fan, started painting while recovering from a horse riding accident. She unwittingly stumbled upon what would become a truly fulfilling and soulful activity. She enjoys working in oils, acrylics and pastels. She seeks to capture the beauty of landscapes, places, and the people she has seen in her travels and at home.

She would like to thank Amirudin Ariffin, one of Malaysia’s established artists for his guidance and the knowledge he has so generously imparted.

Varsha desires to use her art to help the lives of others and to this end part of the proceeds of the sale of her paintings will be donated to a charitable organisation, the Sai Ananda Free Dialysis Centre.
